2016 Reserve Shiraz

Hand-picked Shiraz from our own vineyard is used to craft this intense and powerful wine, which drinks impressively as a youngster but will age and develop for decades to come. Macerated and fermented in open vats, the best portion of the wine is racked to new Burgundy hogsheads for 22 months. It is then racked from barrels and bottled 2 days later and aged for 15 months in bottle before release.  The 2016 Reserve Shiraz is the 13th consecutive release, an achievement that underpins the quality of the vineyard.

Dark burgundy red, fine complex aroma of smoke meats, liquorice, coffee and mocha.  Intense palate – Dark cherry and blackberry fills the mouth, almost kirsch-like flavours.  All the while the svelte tannins coat the palate and draw the fruit to a savoury finish of toasted almonds and graphite.  Special.  Drink now or for the next 30 years!

“Invariably of high quality, and distinctive style.”

“Quite some perfume here, from fruit and oak, with scents of lavender, thyme and sage over ripe black berries, even a little bit of black pepper and vanilla. Full bodied, sweep of ripe and tightly packed tannin, freshness in with a little caramel tickled banana, blackberries, clean acidity, subtle warmth and long finish where those lovely tannins bid a fond farewell. Has a kind of stony ‘mineral’ thing going on, as per usual. Terrific. And so much character.”
