2018 Frankland River Malbec

A fruit for the 2018 Malbec comes from the Ferngrove Vineyard in Frankland River.  We knew the vineyard produced great fruit from years of taking Cabernet Sauvignon and we have definitely not been let down.  An exciting time for Malbec at Faber!  The wine is aged for 15 months in new American oak hogsheads to mature which complement the rich fruit flavours of the wine. Jube, mulberry, spice and rolling tobacco flavours with an attractive vanilla oak top note. Rich, fleshy, firm and medium bodied.

“This gets 15 months in new American oak, and, alongside zinfandel, feels like one of the only grape varieties on earth that works well in that regard. Touch of magic with US oak and malbec, at times. From Talisman Vineyard, Ferguson Valley.”

“Curious and strong cherry elixir, medicinal scents, in a positive, exotic feel. Palate is concentrated in flavour, red fruited and a touch pleasingly bitter in a tonic kind of way. Medium weight and has great length, freshness, vitality and drive across the palate, with fine tannins firming the wine up and guiding it long through its cherry-red plum and spice flavours. This is elegant stuff, sweet at its heart, but it’s meant to be, and there’s plenty of spunk too. Slurpy joy. Really good.”
